Q1. Who is Lord Shitalnath in Jainism?

Lord Shitalnath is the 10th Tirthankara of Jainism, a spiritual teacher who attained ultimate liberation (Moksha) and showed the path of peace and compassion. His life and teachings guide Jains to live with non-violence, truthfulness, and detachment from material possessions.

Lord Shitalnath was born in Bhaddilpur, Bihar, to King Dridhratha and Queen Nanda. His birth is considered auspicious, as he came to the world to spread the message of spiritual calmness and universal love.

The word “Shital” means coolness or peace. He was named Shitalnath because his very presence brought calmness, comfort, and serenity to those around him. His teachings continue to inspire peace in the minds and hearts of devotees.

His symbol is the Kalpavriksha (wish-fulfilling tree). It represents abundance, prosperity, and fulfillment of true desires, reminding devotees that spiritual growth brings lasting happiness, beyond worldly attachments.

  • Ahimsa (Non-violence): Respect and compassion for all living beings.

  • Satya (Truth): Always living truthfully in thought, word, and action.

  • Aparigraha (Non-possessiveness): Reducing attachment to material things.

  • Inner Peace: Finding joy in simplicity and spiritual practices rather than worldly pleasures.

Devotees worship Lord Shitalnath through temple rituals, meditation, chanting mantras, and reading scriptures. His principles are practiced by living with kindness, honesty, and simplicity. Festivals, processions, and special pujas are also held in his honor, keeping his legacy alive in the Jain community.
